what's happened to this presenter ? She used to be so attractive. She is only about 42 and I haven't seen her on BBC London News for about 3 years while abroad. I finally returned and was staggered to see her on TV tonight, 14 July 2023? She has literally balooned up in all senses. Her face is massively bloated and what with her double chin looks almost unrecognisable. Frankly not a good to front the news any longer. (but one never gets sacked or moved on in the BBC ) Pity, but has she just pigged out and let herself go or maybe suffering from thyroid or something else?

As well as a great DJ, Dave was a successful author. His two books All Night Long and The Ratings Game were great stories based on a fictional radio station, probably Capital. A fine broadcaster and much missed.

It’s 2022 and I still ain’t home

When, as an 11 year old, I discovered Radio London (Big L) I simply could not get enough of it. You mean, there was a radio station that played my chart favourites all day long - and the presenters didn't sound like your Grandad (or your great grandad)! Lapped it up. Soon, my bedtime got later and I discovered that in the evening Big L broadcast a strange anarchic show by two guys called Kenny and Cash. These two guys were reinventing music radio presentation styles for the UK. They based their approach on things that had come out of America - but mixed in Goon show humour and an approach to how you don't actually have to treat the content of records as cast in stone that came of a mastery of tape tech and other things. I knew none of these origins or techniques, I just knew that I loved the results. Kenny Everett and Dave Cash presented a slick show that I could not get enough of. Kenny of course (being from Liverpool) worshipped anything Beatles and so the show was littered with Beatles tracks (often edits of album tracks to make "A Beatle Quickie") and Dave's North American accent and sense of humour and timing gave the whole thing a sort of mid-atlantic feel and slickness that held the 11-12 year old me spellbound! A lot of records have a "beat pickup" point and that they would cue-in the records from that point (or straight into the vocal) - you can do that? - BBC never did that! Wow, so slick! Of course it all came unravelled in 1967 when most pirate ships were closed down. Dave Cash came ashore and eventually appeared on Radio 1 presenting Northern Dance Orchestra playing Beatles songs, daily radio soaps and so on - very sad times. But by the 1970s here's Dave on Capital Radio - a much better home for him. I even went into Euston Tower to be on his daily quiz show, so I kinda met him albeit very briefly. He was fixture of British music radio - but I will always be grateful to him and Kenny for demonstrating to a young me how funny, exciting and fast and slick music radio could be. Sadly, I think some of today's stations (though not all) could do with re-learning that lesson. Most stations seem unable to decide what they are - music or talk - and once again far too many presenters most often uttered word is "er......" when they should be playing music. RIP Dave in the North Sea - you did great work there and I will always remember you.

Shame that the offshore archive film shown here is of the Mi Amigo, the Radio Caroline South vessel, on which Dave Cash never worked. All his offshore service was on the Galaxy (Radio London/Big L), up to 1967. He was in the late sixties a daily presenter on BBC Radio One, in the days when the needle time restrictions limited the amount of commercial music allowed on air to about 4 hours a day and meant that the station was largely regarded as a joke amongst teenagers - nevertheless he put together a creditable attempt at a pop show, even having to work around Mrs. Dales' Diary. Later, he pioneered Radio Monte Carlo International's night time broadcasts to the UK in 1970/1971. From 1973, Dave also worked for many years on Capital Radio in London, in its heyday. In fact, he was one of the Directors. I found him relaxed, modest and easy to talk to. Dave Wish/Dave Cash RIP.

They knocked down Dockhead because it was too tight for the new appliances, if u look at woodside fire station its even smaller and they have to fold the wing mirrors in when leaving the bays. Dockhead station was perfectly fine the way it was, also they don't need space for the public since they probably won't be allowed in the station anyway due to the stupid health and safety laws they have nowadays.
